Happiness |
Happiness is the supreme aim which every individual desires to attain in life. It is the sense of peacefulness and contentment that dwells in the mind and heart. The majority of individuals consider that happiness is derived from having money, being healthy, and being in a good relationship with a spouse, kids, and colleagues. But the reality is that happiness exists in one's relationship with God.
Money and Its Effects on Happiness
It is beyond doubt that money is necessary for a comfortable life. It makes life easy and comfortable, but it is not the sole source of true happiness. There are many depressed or spiritually poor people who are rich in terms of money. Money is a means, not an end, and when well used, it enriches life but is not the only source of happiness.
For instance, American actor Robin Williams was extremely wealthy and famous but depressed and met a tragic demise. Likewise, famous designer Kate Spade and artist Kurt Cobain were healthy and wealthy but could not achieve happiness.
Health: A Priceless Asset
Good health is one of the biggest blessings of God. It is the cornerstone upon which an individual can enjoy life, work, and serve society. If an individual is in good physical health, they can realize their ambitions and live a purposeful life. However, there are some who are in good health but are unhappy because they lack peace.
For instance, Prince Harry of the British royal family lived a life of luxury but has spoken openly about his mental health challenges, despite having good health and a luxurious life. This is evidence that health alone is not sufficient to live happily.
The Role of Relationships in Finding Happiness
Social relationships form a vital component of human life. A good relationship with the spouse and children fills one with warmth and happiness, and pleasant relationships with workmates make one's workplace collaborative and supportive. But human relationships alone cannot guarantee total happiness if they are not established on a solid foundation and are not complemented by internal satisfaction.
True Happiness Lies in Nearness to God
True joy is derived from faith in God. If a person is near God, he is at peace and content whatever his situation. Faith stabilizes life and encourages patience and gratitude during times of prosperity as well as tragedies. The stronger one's bond with God, the more he feels true happiness. A heart full of faith does not experience long-term sadness since it is aware that everything is in God's hands, and that being satisfied with His will is the way to true happiness.
Conclusion
Happiness does not lie in possessing wealth, good health, or good relationships alone. Instead, it is a combination of all these when they are in proportion and are complemented by a close connection with God. Closeness to God provides an inner peace that is above any of the earthly pleasures and is the true doorway to long-lasting happiness.
